Search engine behemoth Google has announced the revamped version of its popular online document editing and creating tool, Google Docs, which will now come with enhanced online collaboration features that will allow 50 people to work together on the same document.
In a post on the official Google Docs Blog, written by Google Docs Product Manager, Jonathan Rochelle, Google previewed a newly revamped Google Docs, which will come with an improved spreadsheet editor and collaborative drawing editor.
The company, which supports all things open source, also warned that the new and improved editors do not support the Gears technology, which allows offline editing of the documents. But the company also reassured that offline editing will be soon enabled by the means of HTML 5 web technology.
Commenting on the enhanced features of Google Docs, which has been targeting other enterprise software competitors, Rochelle wrote that “you can now see character-by-character changes as other collaborators make edits. We also added another popular feature from spreadsheets: sidebar chat, so you can discuss documents as you work on them with colleague.”
For now, the new Google Docs features will be available in preview versions over the next few weeks with no clear details about the actual launch date of the functions.

Mainsoft, the company which develops interoperability software for Microsoft Windows, has released a Microsoft Outlook plug-in that allows it to integrate with Google Docs, a service which provides users with the ability to work on Microsoft Office files online.
The plug-in, called Harmony, creates a sidebar in the Microsoft Outlook email client, which will allow users to share, download, edit, email and upload their Google Docs files right from their desktops.
According to Mainsoft, Harmony for Google Docs, which is available for a free download, is designed to allow users drag and drop documents to send them through email and view Google Docs files from Microsoft Outlook.
In order to send a Google Docs file via email, users need to select a file from the Harmony sidebar, drag and drop it on the message board and automatically a link to the Google Docs will be created, instead of attaching it in the traditional way.
The plug-in will also allow users to set viewing and editing permissions on the Google Docs files that are send by them. You can download the addon here.
The company also said that when a person will receives a Google Docs file, sent using Harmony, then the person will be redirected to the site and will be asked to log-in using Google credentials.

Google has announced that it will soon allow its users to store any type of file in Google Docs, via cloud storage technology in an attempt to garner market share in the emerging cloud storage sector.
In a blogpost on the official Google Docs blog, Vijay Bangaru, the product manager for Google Docs wrote “We’re happy to announce that over the next few weeks we will be rolling out the ability to upload, store and organize any type of file in Google Docs.”
This new Google Docs functionality will allow Google Docs users to access their uploaded document from any computer provided that they have an internet connection.
Bangaru reported on the blog that instead of mailing their ‘important’ files to themselves, Gmail and Google Docs users can upload any type of file, up to 250 MB on Google Docs, which will also offer 1GB of free cloud storage space.
The users will also have an option to increase their storage space for $0.25 per GB per year based on their requirements by purchasing storage is lots of 20GB.
Google Docs will also allow users to seamlessly ‘share folders’ with other Google Docs users and will even allow them to store large video, music and photo files.
